Job Description Summary
Assist in the coordination, promotion, implementation and evaluation of recreational activities in specialty program areas such as senior programs, special interest classes, preschool and youth camps. Develop engaging, inclusive, and high‑quality experiences that align with departmental goals and community interests. Provide leadership and oversight to part‑time and seasonal staff while ensuring facilities operate safely and efficiently for exceptional program delivery.
Essential Functions- Research new programs, create flyers, contact vendors, and order and pick up supplies.
- Market and promote recreational programs through various communication channels to increase community awareness and participation.
- Assist in recruiting, overseeing and training the part‑time and seasonal recreation staff; conduct meetings, assign and monitor work; provide support as needed.
- Assist in managing and administering recreation programs; perform administrative duties and facilitate meetings.
- Supervise the purchase, distribution, care, use and maintenance of supplies and equipment for assigned programs.
- Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a variety of recreation activities and specialized events.
- Provide excellent customer service to the public through daily interactions, including assisting with program registrations, processing refunds, and managing participant enrollment and waitlists.
- Ensure safety of participants and facility users and compliance with city, county, state and national laws, regulations and standards.
- Maintain effective relationships with associates, participants, community groups, administration and the general public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Minimum 6 months of college or equivalent vocational, administrative, or technical training; bachelor’s degree preferred. - Experience:
Minimum six months experience in a related field. - Certifications:
Valid driver’s license, CPR and First‑Aid certifications. - Reading, writing, math and technical skills appropriate to the role.
- Managerial:
Semi‑complex – occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns or temporary employees. - Policy/decision making:
Significant discretion in routine decisions. - Interpersonal skills:
Moderate – ability to handle sensitive interactions.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring and training part‑time recreation staff for youth programs.
- Organize and evaluate a variety of recreation activities and specialized events.
- Assist the Recreation Coordinator in completing duties associated with the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
- Comply with the Department Safety Management Program and other job‑related requirements.
- Read, understand and become familiar with all city policies and procedures.
- Vacation Leave: 14 days per year, increasing with tenure.
- Sick Leave: 12 days per year.
- Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year, including one floating holiday.
