Job Description
The Mammography Tech 2 arranges patients for mammography examinations, produces images to aid in diagnosis, and prevents patients from unnecessary radiation exposure. They ensure patient safety by using pre‑established imaging protocols, perform screening for all patients, and utilize departmental policy for safe equipment operation. The role includes providing complete pre‑ and post‑exam education to patients and families, evaluating the competency level of others as a preceptor, and reporting to a supervisor or manager.
Responsibilities
- Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
- Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and the technologist identifies errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports.
- Effectively communicates with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent, explains the procedure, answers questions to ease anxiety, and assures patient cooperation.
- Recognizes clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them, ensuring desirable outcomes.
- Reports, documents, and corrects any adverse, unsafe, or unusual conditions, as evidenced by incidence reports.
- Acts as a patient navigator.
- Ensures effective use of radiation protection with appropriate dose control and protective shielding, maintaining exposure within ALARA limits and meeting ACR guidelines.
- Maintains an orderly, safe, and clean environment; keeps rooms stocked with supplies; performs daily calibration and adjustments on equipment; troubleshoots and reports problems immediately.
- Acts as a backup for other technologists and performs additional duties within specified time frames, including keeping up with ACR and consistently performing organizational service standards.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification (R) (M)
- Louisiana State license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – HCP
