Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our mission is to help ensure United States and ally security by providing high‑hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services, and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.
Pay Range: $/yr – $/yr (actual pay is based on skill and experience)

- Organization composed of Honeywell International Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., and HII Nuclear Inc.
- Recruit, select, orient, and train scientific staff; maintain a safe and secure work environment within STL and NNSS policies.
- Lead staff by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising results, and providing coaching and accountability.
- Lead the Physical Sciences Department within the Special Technologies Laboratory.
- Strategically guide the department by analyzing trends, setting objectives, and measuring results against business and financial goals.
- Oversee departmental budget and financial performance, including forecasting and variance management.
- Maintain and improve service quality through rigorous standards, problem resolution, and continuous process enhancement.
- Design and maintain operational systems, policies, and procedures to foster optimal team and resource effectiveness within STL.
- Create an environment where employees raise, address, and resolve issues.
- Establish and manage a clear, sustainable framework to ensure delivery of high‑quality scientific support to internal and external sponsors for the near and long term.
- Work with Mission Development to identify and support sponsor requirements and needs.
- Provide oversight of strategic R&D initiatives, collaborating closely with various programmatic mission areas within the NNSS.
- Guide special teams that cross functional, technical, and scientific boundaries; coordinate collaboration with external partners.
- Champion and lead special projects for the Laboratory.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 14 years of related progressively responsible experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a calculus‑based relevant technical field is highly preferred.
- Advanced degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
- Leadership skills and success in managing a team within a large organization comprising a scientific and engineering workforce.
- Broad applied knowledge and expertise in leadership, supervision, personnel management, resource planning, and organizational technical experience.
- Experience with customer service requiring excellent interpersonal skills to resolve demands of diverse technical backgrounds.
- Experience leading technical initiatives in scientific disciplines.
- Demonstrated people‑management experience, including project or program planning, budgeting, and staffing.
- Experience working independently and in a team with minimal direction in a driven environment.
- Experience implementing and managing an integrated safety management program.
- Experience interpreting and implementing organizational policies, procedures, and practices.
- Deep knowledge and hands‑on experience in scientific experimental design, diagnostics, and R&D within the NNSS.
- Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, organization, and collaboration skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Position located on site at Special Technologies Lab, Santa Barbara, CA.
- Work schedule:
4/10’s, Monday‑Thursday (subject to change). - Pre‑placement physical examination, including drug screen, is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
