RN Clinical Nurse – 6th Floor (Med Surg)

Summary

The Registered Nurse provides professional, holistic patient care using the nursing process. The RN collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary staff to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, while ensuring compliance with North Carolina Board of Nursing standards and departmental policies. The RN also provides leadership, supports teammates, and promotes a professional, inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide, supervise, and document nursing care based on provider orders and nursing standards.
  • Develop and revise individualized plans of care based on patient needs and responses.
  • Care for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Perform bedside point‑of‑care testing as needed.
  • Prioritize and organize patient care efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, staff, patients, and families.
  • Delegate appropriately and supervise licensed/unlicensed teammates.
  • Provide direct patient care when needed.
  • Serve as charge nurse or team leader when assigned.
  • Participate in ongoing education, in‑service training, and professional development.
  • Precept, mentor, and support teammate growth.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Participate in performance improvement and departmental committees.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
  • Deliver culturally sensitive, age‑appropriate, ethical patient care.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and PPE guidelines.
  • Properly manage equipment and material resources.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Licensure / Certification
  • Active North Carolina RN License.
  • BLS certification.
  • Additional departmental certifications may be required.
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience preferred.
  • Med‑Surg experience highly beneficial.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
  • Ability to assess acute and chronically ill patients.
  • Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Epic EMR and able to learn new systems.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods and meet physical demands.
Additional Information
  • Valid NC Driver's License not required unless driving a hospital vehicle.
  • Must be 21+ and meet MVR requirements if driving.
  • Non‑exempt (eligible for overtime).
