DescriptionJefferson County Division of Children, Youth, Families, and Adult Protection’s mission statement is to promote the safety, well‑being and permanency for children, youth, adults, and families. With this mission in mind, the internship program is designed to establish a network of support for the casework interns.
The primary goal of our program is to prepare you for a career in child protection. As a Casework Intern
, you will have the opportunity to shadow caseworkers in various program areas and sections, gaining a well rounded experience. Eventually, you will be assigned one or two cases where group supervision will be available for case consultation. Additional training will prepare you for a career in social work, covering topics such as agency orientation, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health, sexual abuse, interviewing for caseworker positions, and completing Transfer of Learning requirements.
Only candidates enrolled in an accredited social work program that have a program requirement to complete an internship will be considered. Must have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
Hourly rate for BSW Candidates: $19.00
Hourly rate for MSW Candidates: $20.00

ResponsibilitiesAll Casework Interns support a team responsible for:
- Extensive case documentation, including preparing court reports and social histories, and utilizing family engagement skills to mitigate risk and enhance safety used in the office, client homes, and in the community.
- Assessing the safety of a child, youth, or at‑risk adult and making decisions based on available information, which may include removing a child from their home.
- Advocating for families and children, testifying in court, and de‑escalating potentially volatile situations.
- Daily travel around the Denver Metro area and periodic travel throughout Colorado.
- Working with families dealing with substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, multi‑generational poverty, child abuse, child neglect and sexual abuse.
Supports a team responsible for:
- Assessing allegations of abuse/neglect and referring clients to appropriate services.
- Collaborating with law enforcement, schools, medical personnel, mental health agencies, the courts and providers caring for children.
Supports a team responsible for:
- Coordinating resources for child protection, family and adolescent crisis response, delinquency and parent/child conflict, emancipation planning, and facilitating adoptions.
- Collaborating with service providers, courts, the community, schools, and assessment centers.
- Enrolled in an accredited social work program and completing an internship required by your program.
- Must have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
- Offer of placement is contingent on criminal history, state automated case management system check, and MVR check.
- Must not have convictions for child abuse, crime of violence, unlawful sexual behavior, or felony for domestic violence.
- Must not have a felony involving physical assault, battery, or drug‑related offense within the past five years.
- Must not have a pattern of misdemeanor convictions within the past 10 years.
