This position is open to current Colorado residents only. This posting will be utilized primarily to fill vacant Night Shift positions. Please note that this recruitment will also be used to fill multiple vacancies at this location for different shifts as available. Work schedules will be discussed at the time of interview and arrangements are subject to change.

About the Division of Youth Services (DYS):
The mission of DYS is to protect, restore and improve public safety by providing a continuum of care that offers effective supervision, promotes accountability to victims and communities, and helps youth lead constructive lives through positive development. DYS operates 15 secure facilities serving youth aged 10‑21. Our services include juvenile detention, assessment, commitment and parole. We are committed to increasing the diversity of our staff and providing culturally responsive programs and services.

This is a direct care/essential role that provides direct and engaging supervision of youth in DYS State Operated Secure Facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Safety/Security: Provide direct care, safety, security, and supervision of adjudicated and/or pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting. Monitor, support, and enforce behavioral management plans; supervise daily activities; intervene in crisis situations; de‑escalate incidents; conduct searches; debrief all incidents.
- Youth Center Programming: Implement and follow the Youth Center’s behavioral management program, coach, and redirect youth within the program; support DYS initiatives related to youth programming and crisis intervention.
- Documentation/Recording and Reporting: Record observations of youth behavior; document all unit activities in logs and database systems.
- Organizational Accountability: Demonstrate and support a healthy, positive, and respectful culture consistent with DYS values of non‑violence, open communication, social responsibility, growth, and emotional intelligence. Adhere to the CDHS Code of Conduct and relevant policies.
- Training: Complete DYS Pre‑Service Training Academy, Youth Center training, orientation, and required online training. Maintain proficiency in intervention strategies and behavioral health practices.
Positions may require overtime on a rotating basis, based on business needs.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- No felony convictions or history of domestic violence.
- Valid State of Colorado driver’s license.
- Pass CBI and FBI background investigations.
- Available for shift work (evening, night, weekend, holidays) and mandatory overtime.
- Ability to work on feet and climb stairs during all shifts.
- Willingness and ability to physically intervene with assaultive youth.
- College education in behavioral health or juvenile justice related field.
- Experience with adjudicated or detained youth in a secure residential facility or behavioral health setting.
- Experience facilitating psycho educational groups or mentoring and coaching adolescents.
- Experience with verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques.
- Relevant years of state service.
- Conflict management skills.
- Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making abilities.
- Self‑control, composure, and ability to manage stressful situations.
- Clear verbal communication skills with respect.
- Ability to detect and report hazards or security breaches.
- Accurate written communication of events.
Required shift hours include evening, night, weekend, and holidays. Shifts may vary between 8, 10, or 12 hours. Mandatory overtime may be required. Day shift work is usually unavailable. As a CYSOI, you may be required to report during inclement weather.
