The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities serving youth ages 10 to 21.

Description of JobYou are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times. Shift schedule may vary; typical shift is M-F 9am-5pm. Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.
Summary of Work UnitThis unit provides clinical mental health services to committed treatment level youth and their families in a secure facility. It offers individual, family and group services aligned with DYS strategic plan in a trauma-informed environment. The unit identifies youth needs, develops interventions to mitigate risk and support reintegration into the community, and collaborates with milieu staff, education, family, client management, and community stakeholders to deliver evidence-based services.
Summaryof the Position
This position provides mental health/crisis management services for a caseload of DYS-committed youth. Services include individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based curricula, treatment planning, ongoing assessment, case management, record keeping, and service coordination with a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The role emphasizes strength-based treatment planning, risk assessment, transition planning, and collaboration with MDT, client manager, family, facility staff, and community programs.
Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Behavior Supports, and the Sanctuary model are used in work with youth and families. The clinician will also lead on the clinical team, conduct in-service trainings, and communicate needs to milieu staff.
- Assessment and Treatment Planning
- Assemble a case conceptualization model on entry; review youth files within 30 days; coordinate with DYS client manager and assessment services to align treatment with estimated length of stay and needs.
- Interview youth to ensure reliable assessment data; engage with family/guardians and others to obtain collateral information; develop and oversee treatment plans with measurable objectives; use a multidisciplinary approach; address gender, cultural, religious/spiritual, and sexual identity factors.
- Support transition planning and aftercare; participate in safety assessments for suicidal youth under supervision.
- Treatment Provision & Documentation
- Maintain a caseload and conduct individual, group, and family psychotherapy using evidence-based theories and curricula; address substance use, trauma, cognitive limitations, and offense-specific needs; document responses to interventions and treatment progress in TRAILS; coordinate with medical, educational, and community partners; provide culturally and trauma-informed care; document in a timely manner as required; participate in MDT discussions and transitions; utilize CBT, Social Learning, Motivational Interviewing;
lead groups and coordinate family involvement.
