The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services for juvenile detainees, assessment, commitment and parole. DYS operates ten secure facilities serving youth ages 10 to 21 who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced or committed, and administers juvenile parole services statewide.
Job AssignmentThis position manages the food services program in a juvenile correctional facility and oversees the youth food service work program. The individual must supervise staff, provide quality meals to youth and staff, and ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and standards.
Responsibilities- Supervise youth in the food services work program, including assignment, evaluation, grievance handling and disciplinary actions.
- Provide direct care, safety, security and supervision in the locked kitchen setting.
- Enforce security rules, orient youth to unit and facility rules.
- Communicate, de-escalate crisis situations and adhere to safety protocols.
- Prepare meal service, ensuring correct temperature, presentation and compliance with the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
- Assist youth in prep, cooking, and cleaning after meals, documenting changes.
- Maintain safety and security of property and staff, inventory tools and fire prevention procedures.
- Ensure sanitation procedures, temperature control and store cleanliness per policy.
- Control inventory, requisition supplies, apply FIFO method and document stock levels.
- Attend training, maintain certifications and complete required training.
- Educate youth, instruct tasks, grade tests, maintain competency checklist.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Four (4) years of professional experience related to the work assigned.
- Additional appropriate education will substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Preferred:
Two years of documented supervisory staff oversight.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- State of Colorado residency required at application and throughout employment.
- Full background check: CDHS employees, fingerprint, background database, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, etc.
- Valid non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or obtain within 30 days if out-of-state.
- Shift work: breakfast, lunch, dinner shifts, may be required to work within 30-mile radius.
- Exposure to hazardous materials; use of cleaning agents in kitchen.
- Travel to trainings and alternate sites.
- Must complete DYS Pre-service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO) and mandatory annual training.
