Overview

This is a full‑operating level plumbing technician responsible for maintaining, repairing, and updating mechanical plumbing systems and fixtures in departmental facilities. The Facilities Maintenance Branch provides a safe, high‑quality work environment by maintaining buildings and grounds in compliance with professional standards.

Work location:

15203 W 12th Ave, Golden, CO. Requires state‑wide travel to over 50 CDPS facilities as needed.

Schedule:

Consistent four ten‑hour days, Tuesday‑Friday. Position is not on‑call and does not require snow removal. New work truck and tools, including a jet rodder, are provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair work on all plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Install or alter new or upgraded plumbing systems for construction, tenant finishing, or remodeling.
  • Respond to plumbing service or trouble calls, troubleshoot, and resolve problems.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair various fire protection systems.
  • Maintain and install devices for backflow prevention and troubleshoot related issues.
  • Prepare working sketches, interpret blueprints, and follow diagram specifications.
  • Maintain records and compile daily activity reports in the maintenance management system.
  • Estimate material, labor, and equipment costs for projects.
  • Serve as the construction liaison for large‑scale CDPS plumbing requirements with CDPS Capital Construction or Controlled Maintenance projects.
  • Assist in maintenance and repair work across skilled trades, reporting failures and code compliance issues.
  • Prepare requisitions for parts and supplies as needed.
  • Diagnose malfunctions of mechanical systems and controls; restore to specified standards.
  • Learn and apply state and local laws, ordinances, and regulations related to plumbing fixtures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Follow safety practices to protect oneself and coworkers.
  • Work with hand tools and testing equipment typical to the trade.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, department staff, and others.
  • Maintain records of inspections and work performed.
  • Assist in facility emergencies after hours, with compensation.
  • Maintain proficiency in IPC, IFGC, and related state building codes.
  • Maintain professional proficiency across plumbing systems, venting, drainage, and water distribution.
Inspections and Facility Audits

Inspect building plumbing fixtures, systems, and associated equipment to determine maintenance, repair needs, and upgrade costs. Provide plumbing reviews for State Buildings Controlled Maintenance Program and advise on construction or renovation projects.

Advising/Consulting/Other Duties

Consult with department programs on plumbing system requirements for construction, renovations, or programmatic changes. Provide advice on plumbing applications during project development and support low‑budget construction or controlled maintenance projects. May participate in campus snow removal duties if assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Current journeyman plumber license issued by the State of Colorado with a copy submitted.
  • Three years of experience performing plumbing and steam piping tasks, including preventative maintenance, repair, and installation.

Preferred

  • One year of service plumbing experience.
  • One year of drain cleaning experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
