Machine Operator - Grinding Department

Spyderco, Inc., a conservative, established and growing manufacturing company committed to superior sporting, tactical and culinary knives and accessories, is looking for a Machining Operator to join our Manufacturing team in the Grinding Department. This position is responsible for operating grinding and surfacing equipment used in the manufacturing of high-quality knife blades and components. Grinding operators also perform quality inspections & operate machinery used in other manufacturing processes including but not limited to CNC, vision system (CMM), manual mill, drill press, belt grinder, pneumatic press etc.

Monday - Friday 3:30 - 11:30 pm (Training on first shift for 1-3 months 7 am - 4pm)
Compensation: $21-23.00/hr. and $1.50 shift differential.

Essential Functions
Meticulous attention to detail and maintain a clean and safe work area following 5S principles
Inspect, load and unload materials (up to 50lbs) onto shelves and into machines
Inspect parts in a timely manner using calipers, micrometers, fixtures and various instruments
Properly count, stack, label and color code parts before moving to the next respective process
Perform basic machine maintenance and Dept. cleaning on a daily/monthly basis
Properly allocate parts into appropriate areas, including passed and scrapped parts
Promptly & effectively communicate with Supervisor especially regarding any equipment or safety issues
Modify basic G-Cod Take initiative on written and verbal communications
Adapt to process changes and improvements

Additional Responsibilities

Make adjustments on machines as needed for product specifications
Troubleshoot and assist with production and process improvements
Efficiently communicate with Supervisor to obtain necessary materials and supplies
Assist other departments as assigned
All other duties as assigned

Required

Work Experience
2 years or more
-Single and double disk grinder, surface grinder, and spindle grinder
-Preferred
2 years or more
-CNC mills and lathes operation - Preferred
2 years or more - Involved setup, adjustments, and operational procedures - Preferred
In lieu of experience - Machinist related schooling programs and/or courses

Requirements
Proficient with micrometers, calipers, and other measuring equipment
Reliable and consistent attendance
High attention to detail
Safety conscious
Quality oriented and takes pride in high quality workmanship
Proficient organizational skills
Ability to read and understand technical manufacturing specifications
Has rudimentary understanding of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
Basic math skills
Ability to read and understand written and oral instruction
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff
Ability to safely and effectively operate machinery
Comfort in handling sharp objects (knife blades and raw cut metal)
Ability to adapt and embrace new methods
