Tourism Golden is seeking enthusiastic Visitor Information Counsellors to help visitors experience the best of Golden and the surrounding area. You will welcome people from around the world, provide personalized recommendations, and act as a local ambassador for our community.
About the RoleThe Visitor Information Counsellor role is ideal for someone passionate about Golden who enjoys sharing knowledge, meeting people from around the world, and contributing to a positive and welcoming workplace culture.
In this role, you will report to the Destination Services Manager and work closely with the Visitor Information Supervisors to enhance the visitor experience. Through conversation, you will get to know our visitors and help them discover the activities, services, and experiences that best match their interests. You will act as a local ambassador for Golden and the surrounding region.
This role offers the opportunity to develop strong visitor services and destination knowledge while working where you play—in the mountain-adventure playground of Golden, BC.
Responsibilities & QualificationsKey Responsabilities
- Welcome all visitors to the Golden Visitor Centre in a friendly and professional manner.
- Engage with visitors by providing personalized recommendations based on their interests and travel plans.
- Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
- Promote local tourism experiences, services, and events to encourage longer stays in the community.
- Stay informed about local activities, history, and points of interest to provide accurate recommendations to visitors.
- Accurately record visitor data for reporting purposes.
- Process payments for passes and retail item sales.
- Restock shelves to maintain brochure and retail inventory as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date files and reference materials.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful work environment.
- Package Tourism Golden marketing collateral for shipment to provincial Visitor Centres.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in customer service and/or visitor services.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including cross-cultural communication.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Digital literacy, including the ability to work with Google Workspace.
- Confidence in using electronic devices such as desktop computers, iPads, and payment processing software (training provided).
- Demonstrated initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to maintain a professional dress code and grooming standards.
- Ability to speak a second language (French, German, Spanish, or others) is an asset.
- Eligibility to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
- Valid First Aid and/or AED certification is considered an asset.
- Complete the required Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor (TVIC) Training (Visitor Services Basics, Superhost Foundations of Service Quality, and Service for All) within one month of joining.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets, But Not Required):
- Experience in tourism and/or hospitality.
- Knowledge of local attractions, tourism services, national parks and events.
- Ability to speak a second language (such as French, German, Chinese, or Spanish).
- Experience in retail sales operations, including point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Valid First Aid Certification.
This seasonal position begins in the first week of May 2026. The role may be part-time or full-time, with a minimum of 18 hours and up to 37.5 hours per week between May and September.
Work location:
in‑person. Some travel may be required.
This position is based on‑site and requires in‑person work. The role involves alternating between standing and sitting and performing physical tasks as part of daily operations, including lifting and moving boxes and materials, with reasonable accommodation available where required.
