About the Work Unit

This work unit exists to procure and deliver the I-70 Floyd Hill CM/GC Project. It provides oversight, management, guidance and review of all processes for delivery of the Floyd Hill Project as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation. The unit assures that consultant/contractor plans and processes are in compliance with the guidelines, standards and policies of the State of Colorado and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and that the project stays within scope, budget and schedule.

This requires collaboration with other branches of CDOT, FHWA, private consultants, outside agencies, and the public.

About the Position:

This position exists to serve as the project manager to oversee the development of roadway construction plans, constructability of design plans, details, specifications, and detailed cost estimates for State transportation projects. The position is responsible for full-time project management expertise, including skilled in interpretation of project plans, specifications, and project budget; development of as-constructed plans, management of the project staff to assure compliance with the administration of contract documents.

The position checks CDOT construction plans and reviews engineering consultants' project plans, performs contract administration and reviews project invoices, prepares/maintains project budgets and schedules, and coordinates project work activities with multiple CDOT Specialty Units.

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following

* Reviews  the constructability of project designs, including construction schedule and phasing, and considers alternatives to improve efficiency of the design;

* Participates in milestone design meetings, including scoping, FIR and FOR;

* Collaborates with stake holders to develop a comprehensive bid document package that meets the needs of the project and can be advertised for construction

* Ensures timely project advertisement and best possible bid documents;

* Determines the acceptability of construction schedules by examining the schedule for construction sequencing logic, appropriate milestone dates, and that the schedule meets all the contract requirements;

* Monitors means and methods for work performed by Contractor to ensure that work is acceptable;  

* Authorizes payment for the work and generates project pay estimates;

* Monitors the daily work activities on the project for safety, environmental and quality concerns, and remedies these concerns by making recommendations based on State and Federal policies and guidelines;

* Manages construction material testing and inspection on projects and ensure the work proceeds as necessary to keep the project on schedule and in conformance with the contract;

* Delegates project design and construction responsibilities to less experienced staff and monitor their progress, ensuring that the task is done safely and correctly;

* Manages consultant resources on design and construction projects by delegating individual project tasks to the consultant, reviewing and approving consultant expenditures, reviewing and processing consultant invoices, and managing the consultant workload to best meet the needs of the work unit;

* Assists Procurement and/or Contracts in the consultant selection process, to create shopping carts and task orders;
