ResponsibilitiesWork in a global team as a team lead / individual contributor with all design responsibilities. Perform mechanical design function on new product development teams defining customer requirements, develop and select best concepts, designs, and implementation into production of new products.
Work effectively with internal and external teams on Customer Needs, Concept, and Design of mechanical designs. Ensure tasks are delivered on time and that they meet financial, performance, quality and reliability goals.
Employ DFSS tools and methodology throughout the design process.
Solid modeling design concepts and changes; drawing fabrication to industry standards. Create mechanical specifications for new designs. Collaborate with cross‑functional team to create test plans. Look for opportunities to re‑design products to meet productivity and VE targets. Modify existing drawings to address on‑going Engineering changes.
QualificationsMinimum Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.
Job Requirements- 6-10 years minimum experience with designing electromechanical mechanisms.
- Knowledge of the New Product Development process.
- Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with applicable computer skills such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Minitab are desirable.
- Proficiency with Pro Engineer software.
- Ability to apply Six Sigma tools and methodology.
- Excellent task management skills.
- Ability to effectively weigh cost/performance tradeoffs in new concepts.
- Ability to work with cross‑functional teams that may include multiple locations.
- Possess understanding in:
- Development of transfer functions from the first principles.
- Kinematic and dynamic analysis of mechanisms and linkages.
- Knowledge of electrical contact materials and their application.
- Electrical basics required for switch design.
- Selection of materials (plastics, sheet metal, ferrous and non ferrous alloys).
- Manufacturing processes for part production (plastics – injection and compression molding, sheet metal stamping, conventional machining processes for ferrous and non ferrous alloys, die casting – Gravity, pressure, investment).
- Guidelines to be considered while designing the parts (plastics, sheet metal, ferrous and non ferrous alloys, springs) – Design for manufacturability.
- Guidelines to be considered for the selection of assembly process – design for assembly.
- Statistical tolerance analysis, geometric tolerance and its application.
- Selection of surface treatments (Plating, hardening, anodizing, painting …).
- Participate in prototype builds, development and qualification tests, design reviews, risk assessments, cost analysis, supplier selection and customer meetings.
- Perform engineering calculations to resolve design problems.
- Apply engineering knowledge in several fields to develop product design architecture with full consideration of applicable regulatory approvals, manufacturability, purchasing, design verification, and production testing.
- Having designed Wireless products is an added advantage.
