The scope of this position involves performing journey-level work in maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, altering, and remodeling of all Lewis and Clark College campuses and facilities, with an emphasis on HVAC systems. This role supports the College’s mission of fostering excellence and sustainability by ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable building operations that create a comfortable environment for learning and growth.
Primary assignments include a high level of skill and knowledge in heating and cooling equipment; BAS; water conditioning systems; domestic hot and cold-water systems; pumps; condensate equipment; refrigerants; and a variety of HVAC system devices and controllers. A high degree of competence in HVAC is expected, along with the ability to read blueprints and diagrams. All work must comply with OSHA rules and regulations for work practices and reflect the College’s commitment to integrity, stewardship, and service.
Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)
Serves as an HVAC technician for all Lewis and Clark College campuses and facilities, ensuring systems support a safe, comfortable, and sustainable learning environment.
Assists the HVACR Technician with the building automation system (BAS) in all locations to include programming, adjusting and monitoring of software program via remote access for buildings’ energy usage to provide adequate comfort while reducing overall energy use and ensure the college is meeting energy efficiency goals and temperature comfort with current HVAC equipment.
Involved with maintenance and repairs of all fire alarm systems, sprinkler and water conditioning systems, and control circuits as necessary in conjunction with the Building Maintenance Supervisor, promoting campus safety and reliability for students, staff, and visitors.
Maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, ventilation fans, and cooling equipment; repairs air conditioning units, refrigeration systems, air compressors equipment, and/or boilers when needed; chemically treats hot water heating system, steam generator, and chilled water-cooling system; maintains and repairs for all heating, cooling and ventilation equipment; calibrates and repairs thermostats and air mixing boxes.
Maintains variable frequency motor drives, individual BAS panels, and a variety of HVAC system controllers/devices, contributing to efficient operations aligned with LC’s energy efficiency objectives.
Assists in determining appropriate equipment for residential and commercial needs (including but not limited to chillers, boilers, large split systems, and rooftop equipment).
Maintains refrigerant dispensing records to meet federal EPA requirements.
Maintains Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules and documentation.
Maintains equipment to function at optimal standards, meeting or exceeding efficiency and performance goals that reflect LC’s stewardship values.
Assumes responsibility for proper storage, maintenance, and usage of college equipment, safeguarding resources and supporting LC’s operational integrity.
Ensures safety of all building occupants and campus visitors, including debris, snow, and ice removal, fostering a secure and welcoming campus environment.
Completes requisition requests for materials, ensuring timely and accurate procurement to support LC’s operational excellence.
Assists team in general maintenance duties as assigned by a supervisor, Building Maintenance and/or Director of Campus Operations promoting collaboration.
Complies with all OSHA safety rules and regulations, ensuring a safe workplace for all and reflecting LC’s commitment to health and safety.
Attends and completes all required training (mechanical, industrial, building, safety, IL DOL, and any other training as directed by supervisors, Building Maintenance, or Director of Campus Operations), supporting professional growth and LC’s dedication to continuous improvement and compliance.
