Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the Finance team, responsible for accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and supporting the Controller on strategic initiatives. The role directly influences decision-making through state billing management, reliable reporting, and collaboration with department leaders.

Essential Duties
  • Financial Oversight & Reporting:
    Support month-end close and ensure accurate transaction recording.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare draft monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for Controller review (balance sheet, P&L, all entities/locations).
  • Perform financial and variance analysis to identify trends.
  • Manage Medicaid/Medicare billing and reconciliation.
  • Partner with department managers on financial activity and reporting needs.
Compliance & Audit
  • Prepare government and regulatory filings.
  • Support audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and responses.
  • Maintain internal control and transaction documentation.
Annual Budget
  • Assist in preparing and consolidating the annual operating budget.
  • Gather and validate inputs with managers and track underlying assumptions.
  • Monitor budget performance and help identify cost-saving opportunities.
Contract Review
  • Review vendor contract terms and reconcile related invoices.
  • Identify discrepancies and coordinate resolutions with managers and vendors.
  • Projects & Process Improvement:
    Support or lead finance projects such as system enhancements, automation, process documentation, and training materials.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance required; CPA preferred.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience (nonprofit or healthcare a plus).
  • 1–3 years of month-end close experience.
  • Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, INDEX-MATCH, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.).
  • Strong GAAP, fund accounting, and compliance knowledge.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work additional hours during close periods.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and/or public accounting (audit) preferred.
