Salary: circa GBP 31,000 depending on qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Vacancy Type:
Full-time, all year round role, 40 hours per week. Working hours Monday to Friday, 07.00 - 16.00 (unpaid lunch hour). Demands may require working outside, including evenings and weekends.

Charterhouse School, a beautiful 250-acre campus, seeks to appoint a Groundsperson to maintain sports surfaces, amenity areas and woodland areas to a high standard.

• Routine preparation and maintenance of sports facilities and surfaces (football, cricket, golf, artificial surfaces, etc.)
• Set up sports pitches and amenity surfaces, and undertake minor construction and landscaping work.
• Operate modern turf machinery, ensuring vehicles and equipment are regularly maintained according to routine operating requirements.
• Operate powered hand tools such as strimmers, hedge cutters and flymo.
• Carry out horticultural operations such as spreading fertilisers (granular or liquid).
• Maintain hedges around the estate.
• Clear leaves in autumn/winter.
• Clear snow and apply salt in icy conditions during winter months.
• Undertake tree and woodland maintenance operations.
• Maintain and repair boundary and internal fencing as required.
• Work outside normal school hours, including regular weekend duties, with due notice.

• Hold recognised groundskeeping/greenkeeping qualifications e.g. Level 2 in sports turf management.

• A can-do attitude and readiness to work.
• Experience in sports turf maintenance.
• Basic Health and Safety training.

• Qualifications or training in the use of powered machinery, COSHH, manual handling.
• Chainsaw or spraying certificates.

• Physically fit; role requires extensive manual handling.
• Able to understand and follow instructions.
• Able to work on own initiative and unsupervised.
• Thrives on attention to detail and can complete tasks.
• Reliable and trustworthy.
• Enjoys teamwork and is a team player.
