About the Role

We’re expanding our team in Gloucester and have multiple opportunities for talented Lead Software Engineers to join us across a variety of Defence, Cyber and Intelligence programmes. A key requirement of this role is the ability to obtain and maintain a high‑level security clearance. As a Staff Software Engineer
, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing cutting edge Dev Sec Ops  software systems and applications. You’ll be at the forefront of driving innovation and safeguarding digital infrastructures in the UK.

Typically, you will be involved in one or more of the following:

  • Planning, conducting and coordinating software development activities.
  • Working with customers and key stakeholders to identify requirements and advise on and influence the adoption of suitable architectures and solutions.
  • Design and development of tests to debug software.
  • Working with customer requirements that are to be programmed into business/mission applications, whilst utilising the appropriate standards, processes and tools throughout the entire development lifecycle.
  • Mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Analysis of system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
  • Championing automation in the form of IaC, CI/CD and test automation.

Required skills, qualifications and experience
  • Expert knowledge of current Java.
  • Proficient in another language such as Python, C++, JavaScript, Type Script, React.
  • Experience of developing on Linux.
  • Advanced understanding of mocking and unit testing frameworks such as JUnit (Jupiter).
  • Expert with Git version control.
  • Proficient in Agile Development using SCRUM.
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle/ Relational Databases and/or Mongo.
  • Experience of Git Lab CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Experience of Apache NiFi.
  • Experience in the use of Atlassian Suite - Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence.
  • Experience of Elasticsearch and Kibana.
  • Advanced knowledge of Hibernate.
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS Services such as EC2, EKS, Fargate, IAM, S3, Lambda.
  • Experience of CI/CD software pipelines for Cloud deployments.
  • Experience of developing software for cloud deployment – specifically AWS.
  • Experience developing software for microservice and or serverless architectures.
  • Understanding the development challenges moving on‑prem workload to cloud.
