Job description
We are looking for an Assistant Contracts Manager to join our Gloucestershire Term Maintenance Contract team. This is a key leadership role, combining operational oversight with strategic planning to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
You will manage cyclical maintenance programmes, supervise a team of three supervisors, and act as a vital link between site operations and senior management. This role offers a mix of office-based planning (approx. 70%) and site-based supervision (approx. 30%), providing variety and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the network.
Duties- Develop and manage cyclical maintenance programmes, schedule resources, and ensure timely delivery of works.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and valuations, monitor budgets, and track financial performance.
- Supervise and support three supervisors, ensuring compliance with company standards and fostering a positive team culture.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to CDM regulations and company policies.
- Arrange and oversee traffic management plans, liaising with subcontractors to ensure safe and compliant setups.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, attend meetings, provide updates, and resolve issues promptly.
- Raise purchase orders, manage subcontractor engagement, and maintain accurate records and reporting.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and quality, ensuring works meet specification and environmental standards.
- Proven experience in highway maintenance, construction, or traffic management.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
- Experience in costing, valuing works, programming, and permitting.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage dispersed teams.
- Full UK driving licence required.
Desirable:
- Formal Health & Safety or highways-related certifications
