Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated medical team here at Gloucester Rugby. We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled and experienced physiotherapist or sport therapist to join our performance team, looking after our professional players. Gloucester Rugby Performance Department is an inclusive and welcoming environment, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth within a supportive and ambitious team.

Actively contribute to Gloucester Rugby medical department, remaining dynamic in development, not becoming static and non-developmental.

Responsibilities
  • Uphold high standards of clinical practice and maintain continuous professional development.
  • Actively contribute to the Gloucester Rugby medical department non-negotiables and be confident at respectfully challenging members of staff when these are not adhered to. Lead by example.
  • Use and promote excellent levels of clinical skills in accurately assessing, diagnosing and managing injury.
  • Be an active team player, look out for others and have the team at Gloucester Rugby at the centre of your thoughts in decision making around clinical and non-clinical actions.
  • Be an excellent communicator and ensure the Head of Medical Services (HoM) and any relevant academy staff are updated with accurate information in a timely manner (including but not limited to fitness status of players, RTP dates, changes in RTP plans and overall availability).
  • Provide senior training and match day cover alongside other members of the medical team (including but not limited to senior squad Premiership, Premiership Cup, European fixtures and on occasion, academy matches).
  • On occasion cover matches as MPVR for senior team games (including but not limited to senior squad Premiership, Premiership Cup, European fixtures and on occasion academy matches).
  • Have excellent time management skills and follow medical staff rota as outlined by the HoM.
  • Complete and maintain high standards of medical documentation in line with professional body regulations using the league implemented notes system.
  • Manage loan player injury information and liaise with external medics/ club staff regarding player health, management and availability.
  • Manage a caseload of players (as listed by the HoM) with high standards of care and professionalism whilst building and maintaining exceptional relationships.
  • Implement well structured, personalised rehabilitation plans for injured players on your caseload.
  • Implement well structured, research supported, personalised injury prevention plans for your caseload.
  • Build excellent working relationships with all members of the MDT and performance staff to ensure high standards of RTP.
  • Complete medical screening in line with the medical department screening and biomechanics strategy.
  • Lead in the management of upskilling foundation programme coaches in pitch-side first aid alongside the junior academy medical staff.
  • Keep up to date with current best practice and maintain personal CPD standards as outlined by your professional body.
  • Contribute enthusiastically to the Gloucester Rugby Medical CPD programme.
  • Contribute to a positive club culture and align to standards set out by the Director of Rugby and senior management.
Required
  • BSc. (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy OR Sports Therapy.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body which holds appropriate professional indemnity insurance covering the care of professional rugby players.
  • Current and up to date qualification in Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport – Level 3 (or equivalent) OR the willingness to complete.
  • Be a good character, with a strong commitment to learn and to assist in the development of others.
  • Previous experience as a physiotherapist OR sports therapist working in elite level sport.
Desired
  • >2 years’ experience working in academy elite level sport.
  • Previous experience of rugby union academy settings.
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Advanced Practice Techniques, Mentorship, MSc. Sports Physiotherapy/ MSc. Sport & Exercise Medicine).
