Position: Product Support and Sustaining Engineering Leader (Visa Sponsorship Available)

Job Summary

The Sustaining Engineering Leader leads a team of product support engineers to meet the technical needs of Dowty's customers, both external and internal. Working with the wider engineering team and the whole business, this team maintains the ongoing airworthiness of in-service propeller systems and drives improvements and investigations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leadership, Support, and Development: Lead, support, and develop the product support engineering team, including recruitment and induction of new PSE team members, career development and ongoing appraisal processes, and training, coaching, and mentoring for continuous improvement.
  • Technical Excellence: Lead technical excellence within the team, including engagement with technical activities when required, and driving process improvements.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage budgeting and tracking of spend, approval of labor vouchering, travel expenses, project spend, and other business processes.
  • Resource Forecasting: Provide engineering resource forecasting to support business processes and the engineering resource demand process.
  • Interfacing: Interface with production and maintenance organizations to ensure timely fulfillment of projects and actions and communication of activities.
  • Lean Principles: Uphold and develop strong Lean principles, approaches, standard work, and daily management within the team; lead and support Lean activities and events to achieve business priorities.
  • Communication and Reporting: Provide communication and reporting through sustainment platform reviews, covering current status, investigations and general activities, business issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Leadership Team Participation: Participate in the engineering leadership team to improve effectiveness, resolve issues, and develop improved understanding and processes that better support platform sustainment and overall business activities.

Required Qualifications

This role requires significant experience in Engineering/Technology & Functional Management. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in engineering product support in aerospace or a similarly-regulated industry, ideally in a UKCAA/EASA Part-21 Design Organisation.
  • Technical background in complex systems including mechanical, aircraft control and/or electronic control systems, and a working knowledge of hydro-mechanical control systems would be advantageous.
  • Strength in customer relationship management.
  • Established project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems with a structured process mindset.
