The Transport Driver operates motorized vehicles and equipment for transport and roadside maintenance. Duties include operating loaders, dozers, graders, large trucks and trailers, maintaining equipment, delivering materials, ensuring environmental compliance, and performing basic repairs. The position may involve extreme temperatures, rugged terrain, and high‑speed traffic. Overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required during hazardous conditions. Travel away from base may be necessary.
The driver receives on‑the‑job training and gains authority to adjust work methods within project controls.
• Transports vehicles and equipment such as loaders, dozers, graders, trucks, trailers, booms, and water tankers.
• Performs required maintenance checks and minor servicing on vehicles.
• Delivers equipment, materials, and surfacing aggregates to work sites, shovels material, and spreads liquids.
• Detects unsafe conditions, adjusts speed limits, and assists the traveling public as needed.
• Repairs and cleans delineator posts, reflectors, and marking devices.
• Assists in training other employees and tracks unit data in the PeCoS work program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)- Procedures and practices for operation, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Federal, state, and agency laws and regulations related to safety and public contact.
- Materials, chemicals, equipment, and tools used in roadside activities.
- Established work methods and traffic control for work zones.
- Basic math, accounting, computer systems, and effective communication.
- Office procedures, procurement, and reporting.
Must hold an Arizona Class "A" Commercial Driver's license (CDL) for a manual transmission, N endorsement, and no O or E restrictions. Must maintain the license and pass a medical/physical evaluation and drug test. A valid driver‑license is required for all employees who operate motor vehicles on state business.
