Position Highlights: The University of Arizona Gila County Cooperative Extension is looking for a Program Coordinator, Senior. This new program will work under the direction of the Family, Consumer & Health Sciences Agent to manage activities and functions of the Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) program to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with the Arizona Early Childhood Development and Health Board (First Things First;

FTF) including priorities, time limitations, and methodology. This position provides non-traditional education to caregivers of young children. This program will include programming that teaches early brain development, social and emotional well-being, the importance of attachment, physical safety, health, nutrition, and beyond. This position will be working on San Carlos Apache Lands within the San Carlos Apache FTF Region; and works in coordination with First Things First, the Arizona Board of Regents, the University of Arizona on behalf of the Gila County Cooperative Extension, as well as other possible funding sources.

The successful candidate will provide expert guidance and technical assistance to FFN providers on a wide range of topics delivered in the community. This position will be provided training and appropriate resources, and will work in a lead role as part of a team to develop educational materials which are appropriate for the audience.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

This position requires some evening and weekend work.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinates, prepares, and/or facilitates local trainings, workshops, meetings, or conferences for early care individuals, FFN, and stakeholders. This includes coordinating all the pieces of program delivery: including but not limited to, conducting outreach efforts, supervising part-time support staff, buying all items needed for delivery, managing childcare providers, etc.
  • Creates educational materials, activities, and series curriculum. Improves lessons and activities to better meet the intended audience.
  • Develops, compiles, and distributes communications and promotional literature. This include creating outreach material and social media/newspaper postings.
  • Collaborate with local community partners on local early childhood and health/safety concerns by attending meetings and events in the community; provide community presentations on the importance of FFN education; and serve as a community resource to other local stakeholders serving young children as well as early care and education programs. Use these collaborations as modes to recruit FFN participants.
  • Create, distribute, and manage surveys and evaluation data. This includes ongoing storage and data entry as well as compiling and creating monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a multifaceted population, especially our tribal nations.
  • Skills in creating and delivering educational materials.
  • Knowledge of adult education practices (informal).
  • Knowledge of early child development, health topics and the importance of early care.
  • Knowledge of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, as well as surrounding areas.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Five years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license upon employment, provide own transportation, be able to travel statewide and the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Must be able to work some weekends and weeknights, as needed as travel statewide for trainings and statewide meetings will be required.
