Overview

Petco is a category-defining health and wellness company focused on improving the lives of pets, pet parents, and partners. As an entry-level Pet Stylist, you will provide professional grooming services in a friendly, welcoming environment.

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning under moderate supervision.
• Operate grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize pet safety and well‑being, monitor for discomfort or injury, and report concerns to owners and management.
• Evaluate pet needs, considering coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
• Provide customer service, address inquiries, offer recommendations, and resolve questions with pet parents.
• Educate pet parents on home grooming care and product use.
• Maintain a clean, sanitized salon area, performing daily and weekly cleaning duties per Petco hygiene policies.
• Apply grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency.
• Support entry‑level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

• Completion of Petco Pet Stylist Apprentice program or previous professional groomer experience.
• High‑school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Strong problem‑solving, independent judgment, and ability to handle routine to moderately complex situations.
• Results‑driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of grooming responsibilities.
• Attention to detail, ensuring services meet the highest standards.
• Passion for animals and desire for a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, and common health issues.
• Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

Work is primarily indoors with frequent handling of pets and salon equipment. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing extended periods. Exposure to heights and noise is common.

• Competitive base pay: $15.00 – $22.50 per hour.
