Position: Communication Faculty & Fellow for the Center for Civics Education and Engagement

Job Description

Primary Responsibility:
This position will be held at any approved CMC campus and will teach a combination of courses college wide (remotely) and in-person. Full‑time faculty positions begin in July 2026 with a 30‑credit‑hour or combination of credits and reassignment time for college‑wide duties (170‑day contract per Board Policy 4.12), teaching load annually. The successful candidate will teach communications courses, including but not limited to Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Professional Communication, and support CMC's newly formed Center for Civic Education and Engagement.

Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include teaching course load as assigned, evaluating courses and assessing student learning, meeting established course, program, and learning outcomes, complying with guidelines and policies, maintaining office hours per established standards, developing rapport with students, assisting with advising, orientation, and registration activities. Additionally, the faculty member will play a direct role in developing curricular and co‑curricular activities associated with the Center.

Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Communication, or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Communications.
  • A minimum of one year, full‑time teaching experience or equivalent (30 credit hours) as an adjunct faculty member; higher education teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with a variety of teaching delivery modes: in‑person, hybrid, synchronous online, and asynchronous online.
  • Experience and expertise in political discourse, civics education, designing and implementing coursework, co‑curricular programs, and community programs in democratic and civic participation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, and collegiality.
  • Commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.

Salary Range

$79,902.51 – $97,321.19 annual salary, depending upon a combination of education and experience. Minimum Qualifications

The following responsibilities and activities are listed in order to maintain consistency in the application of expectations and align job duties with evaluation and promotion procedures.

1.A.1 Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach course‑load as assigned.
  • Evaluate courses and student learning.
  • Meet course, program, and institutional learning outcomes established by CMC.
  • Comply with department guidelines and college policies.
  • Maintain at least five office hours per week.
  • Develop rapport with students that is professional and encourages communication.
  • Assist with academic advising of students.
  • Participate in orientation and registration activities.
1.A.2 Scholarly and Creative Activities
  • Continuing certification in discipline (if applicable).
  • Graduate coursework.
  • Continuing education.
  • Sharing expertise within discipline (grant writing, publishing, exhibitions, performances, presentations, conferences).
  • Attending campus and college‑wide trainings and in‑services.
  • Conducting research.
  • Developing/advancing instructional technology.
  • Other activities approved by faculty member and Assistant Dean of Instruction.
1.A.3 Service Activities
  • Serve on campus and college‑wide committees.
  • Represent discipline on state, national, and international levels.
  • Participate in relevant projects with administrative approval.
  • Mentor peers.
  • Modify, develop, and maintain curriculum.
  • Assist with assessment activities.
  • Assist with program review.
  • Advise student organizations.
  • Participate in recruiting/retention activities.
