Position: Patient Care Technician, Cardiac Post Procedural Medical Telemetry
Location: Glenbrook Hospital
Hours: 32-40 per week, Evening shift with Rotating Weekends
Pay: $18.84 - $27.32 per hour. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
Job SummaryThe Patient Care Technician (PCT), under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and procedures to provide care, comfort and safety for patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit. ResponsibilitiesAnd Essential Functions
- Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Interact with patients and visitors, answer patient call lights, answer phones, assist visitors, and perform purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
- Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learn patient safe handling skills to assist in ambulation and to assist nursing staff in transferring, lifting, and repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
- Basic Nursing Care - ADLs: Provide basic care by assisting with personal care needs (bathing, grooming, oral care, eating/feeding, bedpan or urinal use, positioning, responding to calls, bed making) under RN/LPN supervision. Follow safety policies and procedures.
- Admission / Discharge / Transfers: Assist with room setup, patient/room orientation, discharge and/or transfer, and transport/escort patients safely while keeping patients updated.
- Procedures and Treatments: Complete and document patient care activities (ADL, vital signs, weights, intake & output, calorie counts) per policy. Explain and perform procedures under nurse direction (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care, dressing changes). Notify appropriate personnel of responses and questions. Collect non-sterile specimens and perform point-of-care blood glucose testing under nurse direction. Promote skin integrity by reporting problems to the appropriate team member.
- Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: May be asked to remain with a patient to keep them safe.

Support nursing team with indirect patient care activities (restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering/relaying calls, filing, delivering supplies and specimens, etc.). Activities vary by department.

- Minimum
Education Requirements:
Eligible to work in the US; completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred; minimum licensure requirements. - Licenses/Certifications: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart Association. If not current or if certification is not held, it must be obtained within the introductory period (within 90 days of hire).

Skills and Abilities
(KSAs): Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, prioritization, and ability to follow directions. Demonstrates concern for and commitment to the welfare of patients and families. Attending an in-depth orientation regarding patient care tasks. Employees are trained to observe fire and safety procedures and patient experience standards.

- Environment:
Normal mental, visual, and auditory attention with ability to read patient charts and communicate with patients and healthcare staff. Potential exposure to blood, body fluids and other hazardous materials. Able to work under pressure to meet patient care needs. - Physical Demands:
May involve lifting up to 50 pounds in urgent situations; use of patient movement equipment for non-emergency transfers; wearing PPE as applicable (N95/PAPR).
