SummaryThe Athletic Trainer (ATC) Physician Extender is a vital member of a fast-paced orthopedic practice, acting as a liaison between patients, physicians, and clinical support staff. The role focuses on delivering patient‑centric musculoskeletal care and teamwork, helping patients move better so they can live better.
Responsibilities- Promote excellent patient care
- Assist with patient examinations and treatments
- Order tests/labs based on MD/PA direction
- Manage/coordinate clinical schedule(s) as directed
- Take an active role within the patient medical team
- Develop positive relationships with the physician teams at IBJI
- Communicate with physicians regarding patients’ conditions, treatments, and protocols
- Treat and prevent athletic injuries by developing therapies to reduce pain and improve mobility under the direction of a physician
- Assist in exercise instruction and demonstration, patient evaluation and testing
- Demonstrate clear and effective communication skills to patients to educate them on their plan of care
- Complete daily paperwork and maintain patient records within the electronic medical record system
- Maintain, order, and stock supplies/inventory as instructed
- Independently schedule and perform DME brace fitting and educate patients with proper donning and doffing, as assigned
- Return voicemail and email messages from patients and clinical staff in a timely manner
- Attend continuing education seminars to keep Illinois license in good standing
- Always follow HIPAA/OSHA guidelines and regulations
- Other duties may be assigned at any time by the supervisor
- Graduate from an accredited Athletic Training Program
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
- Hold or be eligible for Illinois licensure as an Athletic Trainer in good standing
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with DME fitting and application preferred
- Ability to lift greater than 25 pounds
- Demonstrates good understanding of proper body mechanics for lifting, pulling, and pushing
- Ability to stand and sit for sequences of time greater than 30 minutes
- Ability to work on a computer for lengthy periods during the day
Base salary: $44,000.00 – $64,000.00. Benefits for those eligible (30+ hours a week) include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long and short‑term disability, 401(k) with company match and profit sharing, wellness program, health savings accounts, flexible savings accounts, plan, accident, critical illness and hospital benefits.
