Senior Controls Systems Engineer; hybrid

What you will do
Johnson Controls is hiring a Senior Controls Systems Engineer to apply technology and control theory, thermodynamics and heat transfer to develop models, algorithms, control sequences and system solutions for Building Automation systems (BAS) and commercial HVAC equipment control. You will be responsible for the implementation and test of control applications for commercial HVAC systems (air side and water side) and standalone equipment.

This position is based onsite at our new Innovation Center, the Warren Johnson Engineering Lab. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able/willing to relocate. We offer various relocation packaged.

How you will do it

This individual will be a member of the Control Applications Team that applies technology and the principles of control theory, thermodynamics and heat transfer to develop models, algorithms, control sequences and system solutions for Building Automation systems (BAS) and commercial HVAC equipment control. This position will initially be responsible for the implementation and test of control applications for commercial HVAC systems (air side and water side) and standalone equipment.

We are looking for an analytical thinker disciplined in applying robust design methodologies and engineering principles (modeling, simulation,data acquisition etc.) to develop and realize solutions. We need someone self-motivated and able to work independently but must also be able to interface directly with electronics engineers, mechanical engineers, software developers, systems engineers and research engineers to develop system-wide solutions.

What we look for
Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline

• 5+ years related software development experience

• Demonstrated problem solving skills required. Willingness to interact with other disciplines outside of one’s own team

• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional, matrixed team environment

• Experience with MATLAB and Simulink

• Experience with classical control theory (PI or PID)

Preferred

• Master’s Degree in Controls, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering

• Experience with building automation platforms such as Metasys Experience with C, C++, or Python

• Experience with plant modeling or building energy modeling

• Knowledge of modern control theory and advanced optimization

• AI and prompt engineering

• Understanding of HVAC equipment

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $112,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
