An aircraft structures mechanic's job description includes inspecting, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures like the fuselage, wings, and flight control surfaces. Core duties and responsibilities:
  • Inspect and diagnose: Conduct pre-flight, post-flight, and other structural inspections to identify damage, wear, and corrosion.
  • Repair and replace: Repair or replace damaged components such as sheet metal, ribs, spars, and skin using techniques like riveting and patch repairs.
  • Install components: Install various parts, including insulation, floors, and cargo fittings, using a variety of materials from metal and composite to plastic.
  • Modify structures: Make modifications to aircraft structures following approved data and manufacturer's manuals.
  • Work with sealants: Apply seal chemicals to maintain the integrity of the aircraft.
  • Follow technical data: Use technical data, manufacturer's manuals, and company and FAA regulations to perform all tasks accurately and safely.
  • Log and document: Keep detailed records of all inspections, repairs, and modifications performed.
