Overview
Perform senior‑level commercial carpentry work. Perform a variety of remodel, restoration, alteration, refurbishment, and new construction work to interior and exterior facility structures. Assemble wood and metal framework, install insulation, fasten drywall, spread surface compounds, and assist with applying coats of stain, enamel, lacquer, varnish, and/or paint to decorate and protect surfaces. Assist with the installation of wood trim, acoustical ceiling tile systems, cabinetry, counter tops, and a variety of accessories and fixtures.
Assist with roof maintenance and repair. Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of Medeco lock hardware, and with the construction, refinishing and/or repair of custom woodwork.
- Analyze simple drawings, specifications, oral instructions and general requirements to determine the scope of work.
- Use architectural drawings to define project parameters.
- Prepare the site by protecting furniture, equipment, and floors with ram board, plastic sheathing, and/or drop cloths.
- Prepare all areas for preliminary work and protect doors, windows, and related trim with masking tape and paper or plastic film.
- Remove fixtures such as pictures, mounting brackets, dispensers, mirrors, etc. from walls prior to repairing or painting surfaces.
- Wash interior and/or exterior surfaces prior to applying paint, varnish, lacquer or other related material.
- Strip worn paint and sand surfaces.
- Fill imperfections, cracks, seams, and holes with putty, plaster, or other materials before troweling, or before applying a topcoat or texture coat to surfaces.
- Apply caulk, putty, plaster, and wood fillers to trim molding around doors, windows, ceilings, and floors.
- Paint signs using block letters, decals, or apply lettering free‑handedly.
- Verify the trueness of structures using a laser level. Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk, and/or marking gauges. Perform measurements and calculations to estimate material needs and acquire resources.
- Assist with applying protective primer and finish coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, and/or other related materials to interior and/or exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, and other structures.
- Assist by using brushes, spray guns, paint rollers, cloth materials, sponges, and fingers to create special effects and/or to recreate textures, color matches, shadowing, shading, or graining to drywall and plaster surfaces.
- Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machine tools, and/or portable electric, battery‑powered, or pneumatic tools. Perform construction, assembly, and/or repair of wood and metal framework for temporary and permanent structures and buildings using hand tools, wood screws, nails, dowel pins, glue, etc.
- Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, jambs, weather stripping, flashing, and finish hardware, such as locks, hinges, and kick plates.
- Apply shock‑absorbing, sound‑deadening, wainscot or decorative materials to walls.
- Assist with performing interior trim work such as installing crown mold, chair rail, base mold, window and/or door trim, etc.
- Assist with performing exterior cladding work such as installing flashings, bitumen paper with stucco, vinyl, wood, or metal siding, etc.
- Assist with performing exterior trim work such as installing corbels, cornice, fascia, and related moldings.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Possession of an appropriate valid California driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
One alternative is the completion of the following classes/seminars from an accredited trade school, which is an acceptable credential (but is not required), as well as to have a minimum of two years of senior‑level on‑the‑job experience in commercial building construction and maintenance.
