Eligibility & Application
  • Must submit an application AND complete the Law Enforcement - Frontline National exam through the National Testing Network by March 24, 2026 and no earlier than one (1) year from the time of application. Select City of Glendale to share results.
  • Present proof of California POST Basic Police Academy attendance or graduation within the past year.
  • Provide valid Class C California driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at appointment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
Essential Functions
  • Provide exceptional customer service in accordance with department standards.
  • Respond to calls for service involving accidents, emergencies, crimes, threats, altercations, or requests for aid.
  • Perform first aid, interview, interrogate, and record statements; identify facts and prepare written reports.
  • Apprehend suspects using appropriate techniques and firearms under suitable conditions.
  • Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, issue citations, and investigate accidents and crime scenes.
  • Investigate matters involving juveniles and refer to appropriate authorities.
  • Serve subpoenas, warrants, testify in court, and manage evidence.
  • Assure safe, efficient performance of duties.
Education / Training
  • High school diploma, GED, CHSPE, HiSET, or CPP certificate.
  • Enrollment in a California POST Basic Academy (letter verifying enrollment); or graduation within one year (copy of certificate).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Exceptional customer service practices.
  • Independent judgment and decision making based on policy.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to employees and vendors.
  • Maintain high ethical standards.
  • Handle angry or frightened individuals calmly.
  • Develop job‑related skills during training and meet probationary standards.
  • Build working relationships and resolve conflicts.
  • Compose detailed field reports.
  • Remain composed in threatening situations.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to assume responsibility for safe working environment.
  • Work overtime as requested.
  • Good moral character; no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
  • Pass pre‑placement medical and psychological exam.
  • Pass hearing test acceptable to City standards.
Other Conditions
  • No visible tattoos, body art, or other skin markings while on duty (unless exempted by Chief). Must be covered by authorized uniform, business attire, or casual dress.
  • Within four months of employment, reside within sixty contiguous land miles of Glendale Civic Center.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge or use of personal computers.
Test & Selection Process

Applicants will complete the National Testing Network exam as described. Passing scores: 65% video, 70% writing, 70% reading. Following application review, candidates may be invited to:

  • Physical Agility Test (details).
    Physical Agility Test 03/14/2026
  • Preliminary Background Questionnaire.
  • Oral Interview.
  • Background Investigation (includes polygraph and Livescan).
Veteran’s Credit

Veteran’s Credit Awarded. Proof of honorable discharge (DD214) must be attached.
