RN Clinical – Verdugo Surgery Clinic – Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)
Keck Medicine of USC – Glendale, CA – Full‑time position.
As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients.
Essential Duties- Follow policies and procedures, demonstrating ability to access online manuals and references.
- Transfer learned scientific knowledge into practical application of the nursing process.
- Assessment – appropriately complete nursing assessment and screening upon patient encounter via telephone or in clinic.
- Diagnosis – interpret assessment information and formulate nursing diagnosis.
- Plan – maintain problem list, medication list, and allergies list when indicated.
- Intervention – administer medications as ordered, complete re‑assessments as indicated, perform patient care procedures correctly per policy, delegate tasks based on scope of practice and competency, and act as patient advocate.
- Documentation – complete accurate documentation on all encounters and accept patient disability/EDD/FMLA paperwork, collaborating with Providers to return to patients in a timely manner.
- Education – provide patient and family education as needed based on diagnosis or treatment plan.
- Equipment – maintain blood pressure and vitals machines, identify and report defective equipment to the appropriate department.
- Communication – communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and family, appropriate patient/family interactions, effective triage of phone calls, collaboration with Physicians/APPS for escalation, utilizing appropriate methods (Cerner, e‑mail system, etc.) and SBAR.
- Organization – manage time effectively, organize and prioritize responsibilities, and take meal breaks without incurring overtime.
- Observe regulatory agency requirements – National Patient Safety Goals, use two patient identifiers, avoid unapproved abbreviations, perform procedural time‑outs, communicate appropriately between providers, complete medication reconciliation, maintain audible alarms, hazardous waste management, biohazard medication sharps, HIPAA and OSHA requirements, JCAHO continuous survey readiness, critical values management, dictated orders verification, and maintain a safe work environment for self and others.
- Quality measures – identify and participate in data collection and process improvements.
- Professional development – participate in professional hospital/nursing activities, relief charge nurse duties, Nursing committees/councils, journal club, educational workshops, and assist in development or updating of patient education / staff MA education materials.
- Accept additional duties as assigned.
- Bonus points – professional certification (other).
- Assess patient knowledge base/understanding of their diagnostic procedure.
- Plan with the patient the course of their testing/treatment in coordination with physician.
- Assist with performance of cardiac diagnostic procedures in the Non‑Invasive Cardiology Lab.
- Educate patient/family about procedure and treatment, document results, and provide accurate chart documentation of procedures performed and patient tolerance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN);
Grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019. - 1–2 years experience as an RN.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
- Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to understand, follow, and perform duties including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations, and procedures.
- 1 year experience in a non‑invasive Cardiology setting immediately prior to application, with experience in all non‑invasive modalities preferred.
- 0–1 year experience with vascular patients/procedures.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
- Registered Nurse – RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 – $87.45.
