About the opportunityThe IRC in Los Angeles has an Employment Training Panel that provides job readiness training, digital literacy, and financial literacy to newcomers and clients with work authorizations who are seeking job opportunities. The panel helps refugees achieve self-sufficiency through paid employment and aims to retain employment for more than 90 days (or a minimum of 500 work hours). The volunteer will assist the Workforce Literacy Program Specialist with managing the Employment Training Panel and will assist clients to prepare for and secure their first job in the U.S. on a 1:1 basis.
Responsibilities- Assist Employment Training Panel clients in securing their first job in the U.S. through one-on-one coaching for resume creation, cover letter creation, job applications, and interview preparation.
- Provide employee follow-up and document self-sufficiency progress.
- Assist in finding job opportunities for clients in Greater Los Angeles (LA/OC/Riverside).
- Assist in document translation and interpretation between the Workforce Literacy Program Specialist and clients in their primary languages (Spanish, Russian/Ukrainian, Armenian, and Farsi).
- Gain experience in individual coaching techniques to engage and empower clients.
- Develop effective outreach strategies to help clients find and retain a job.
- Learn to create professional resumes and cover letters tailored to job levels.
- Grow knowledge in PowerPoint creation and lesson planning.
- Improve cross-cultural communication with clients.
- Language combinations:
English/Armenian, English/Russian/Ukrainian, English/Spanish, or English/Farsi. - Excellent communication and writing skills, including cross-cultural communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Some experience in tutoring or coaching with a focus on employment services (resume building, cover letters, mock interviews, job search, and applications).
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent organizational skills with high computer literacy.
