The University of Southern California (USC) is one of the world's leading private research universities with approximately 40,000 students from all 50 states and enrolls more international students than any other U.S. university. USC is located in the heart of Los Angeles, a culturally rich metropolitan city, and is close to both beach and mountains with wonderful outdoor recreation opportunities. The mild temperatures along with the city's average of 329 days of sun per year makes Los Angeles a wonderful city to live and work.
Aboutthe Opportunity
The Health Leave Coordinator (HLC) is a non-clinical position in the Office of USC Campus Support and Intervention (CSI) and is responsible for supporting students and their families in the process of taking a Health Leave of Absence (HLOA) from the University. The HLC will help constituents determine the appropriateness of a HLOA, as well as determine the necessary steps in requesting a Health Leave.
The HLC will administer the leave and support the student through the administrative and logistical issues associated with the leave and return processes. The HLC will collaborate with campus partners and academic units to determine an individualized health leave plan and a supportive return plan. The HLC will determine the readiness for a student to return from leave and, on a case‑by‑case basis, collaborate with campus partners on the student's readiness, and recommendations for when a student returns to the USC community.
The HLC will assist the CSI team in supporting students, faculty, and staff in navigating other university processes, respond to crises – individual and campus-wide, and assist families of those in distress. The HLC is also responsible for caseload analysis of all HLOA cases in order to ensure a timely and thorough response, and in identifying and presenting best options and solutions for students who require a HLOA and CSI support.
This position is supervised by CSI's Assistant Director of Student Health Leaves (ADSHL). Together, with the ADSHL, the HLC will be a part of continuing to develop CSI's system of addressing student needs on a systemic level. The position requires a strong, creative and flexible candidate.
