Job Description & DutiesUnder the general supervision of a Supervising Tax Auditor II, the Business Taxes Specialist (BTS) II serves as lead auditor over teams of experienced auditors on the most difficult and complex audits and actively participates in the overall management of these audits, typically consisting of the largest worldwide business entities. The BTS II makes audit appointments, interacts with tax managers, directors, partners of accounting firms, attorneys and corporate officers, explains the audit findings, prepares accurate and complete audit reports and written correspondence.
The BTS II is responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership to audit teams which often involve emerging industries and/or controversial or precedent‑setting issues. The BTS II conducts special projects, tasks, and other job‑related functions as necessary, and may assist the office reviewer. This position may be required to rotate into the BTS II audit review position.
Travel is required at least 50% of the time, including overnight stays.
Special Requirements- Participates in E‑Verify; must submit Form I‑9.
- Employee must be fingerprinted and pass a background investigation.
- Position may be called to testify in administrative hearings and criminal court proceedings.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications for the Business Taxes Specialist II, competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:
- Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA.
- Current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years.
- Current or former non‑elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years.
- Persons retired from the United States military with an honorable discharge and service disability, or honorable discharge (DD‑214 required).
