About the role

The Product Development Manager owns a critical product portfolio within our water appliance business and is responsible for driving growth, innovation, and profitability. This role partners closely with cross functional teams including industrial design, marketing, and international manufacturing partners to lead products from concept through launch. The Product Development Manager researches market trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies to define a three year product roadmap, identify new product opportunities, and improve product reliability, margins, and cost efficiency.

This role also supports channel strategies across independent dealers, e commerce, and big box retailers, while improving consumer facing communications in collaboration with marketing and creative teams. The Product Development Manager presents proposals and progress updates to leadership and holds ultimate accountability for growing market share, increasing sales, improving margins, and identifying SKU consolidation and portfolio optimization opportunities.

What you'll do
  • Assess market and determine unmet product needs for managed portfolios
  • Evaluates current portfolio and identifies opportunities for sku consolidation and rationalization
  • Understands market needs and makes recommendations for commercial offerings to maximize growth in portfolio categories
  • Review and understand competitive product / landscape with a constant finger on the pulse of the industry
  • Conduct consumer research, where appropriate, to understand their needs and requirements
  • Keep abreast of advanced technologies relevant to category design and development
  • Maintains market position of products by managing existing product lines and competitive market information.
  • Provides 3-year vision for what "could be" in listed category
  • Represents use profile for the product in application and ensures appropriate test methods are applied to all product development activities and that testing outputs align with product plans and engineering goals.
  • Works with engineering and purchasing teams to ensure issues are resolved
  • Utilizes vendor resources and expertise in product management and new product development
  • Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing is preferred
  • Proven collaboration with internal resources and sales teams to ensure alignment of initiatives
  • Perform all activities related to commercialization and key product launches including pricing, positions, placement, training and marketing mix
  • Understanding of key elements of Profit/Loss statement for category
  • Solid analytical skills and initiative
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and high comfort level presenting to customers
  • Proven ability to bring multi-functional groups together which have varied experience, opinions, ideas and goals and develop a successful team able to exceed expectations
  • Strong customer service focus
    • Self-motivated
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations
  • Proven experience in full lifecycle product management; experience in sku heavy portfolios a plus.

The pay range for this role is:

125, USD per year (Glendale, California)
