The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:
- The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
- The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.
As a Recreation Specialist, you will assist in implementing recreational programs and activities while ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and City policies. Responsibilities include preparing recreation facilities, managing reservations for meeting rooms, fields, and courts, and setting up necessary equipment such as sports gear, audiovisual systems, tables, chairs, and other recreational materials for scheduled events and activities. Additionally, you will provide guidance to program participants to enhance their overall experience.

Position OverviewThis part‑time position requires availability to work any day of the week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Typical operating hours: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM, working most weekends
- Hours:
30+ hours per week, scheduled as needed, weekend coverage lead - Hourly rate: $18.00
- FLSA status:
Non‑exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week) - Work locations:
Sahuaro Ranch Park, Glendale Youth Sports Complex, Paseo Sports Complex, and Heroes Park - Sick Time:
Accrues at 0.034 hours per hour paid
- Interact with citizens in a fun, friendly and courteous manner. Interact effectively and courteously with the public and other employees. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis (daily).
- High school diploma or equivalency; any combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.
- Associates or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Products and reservation type software is preferred.
