About Us

The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:

  • The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.
The Role

Join a fun, engaging work environment where you can bring your passion to work and make a meaningful impact. The City of Glendale Recreation Division offers programs for adults 18+, including fitness classes, computer classes, bingo, arts and crafts, and special events.

We are seeking friendly, customer-service-oriented individuals to support programming in a recreation center setting. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising activities; ensuring participant safety; enforcing City policies and procedures; and preparing facilities and equipment for scheduled programs.

Note: This is a part-time position, up to 19 hours per week. The greatest need is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

  • Typical operating hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
  • Hours: Up to 19 hours per week, scheduled as needed
  • Hourly rate: $16.50
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate day-to-day operations (including set-up, organization, and running) of various recreation programs, events and activities.
  • Inventory’s program supplies regularly and provides information about any items that might be needed.
  • Assures facilities and equipment are in good working order and arranged to meet safety standards and the requirements of users.
  • Monitors program participants, enforces rules and regulations, and monitors security of facilities.
  • Interacts with the public in responding to questions and assisting in preparation for programs and events.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge of
  • Parks and Recreation department policies and regulations
  • Various types of recreation programs (i.e. computers, crafts, bingo, special events)
  • Computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, registration software
Ability to
  • Interact with citizens in a fun, friendly and courteous manner
  • Interact effectively and courteously with the public and other employees

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have/obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of Hire
  • A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.

The position requires the ability to stand and move throughout a recreation facility; bend, stoop, reach, and kneel; and lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 25–40 pounds. The employee must be able to set up and break down program spaces, visually monitor participants and facilities for safety, and communicate effectively with the public.
