The RoleWater Services System Technician – Water Distribution performs skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work on the City’s water distribution network.
Duties- Install, test, maintain, and repair water mains, sewer mains, service valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and stormwater facilities.
- Operate light, medium, and heavy equipment including 3‑ton utility trucks, backhoes, jetters, vacuum trucks, dump trucks, utility cranes, hydro‑excavation equipment, and closed‑circuit TV.
- Use power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment to accomplish tasks.
- Explain and enforce safety rules, barricading, traffic direction, hazardous materials handling, and equipment operation.
- Maintain daily work records and perform computerized data entry.
- Transport and set up supplies, conduct safety checks.
- Install, test, maintain, and repair water and sewer infrastructure, including taps, meters, and valve installations.
- Perform water shut‑off/turn‑on for scheduled maintenance and emergencies.
- Investigate sewer odors, stoppages, and requests, including stormwater issues.
- Hydro‑clean sewer and storm lines to remove obstacles.
- Assist with closed‑circuit TV operations for sewer and storm line monitoring.
- Operate city vehicles requiring a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- FLSA non‑exempt; overtime paid for hours over 40 per week.
- Grade 312; hourly salary between $22.6404 and $33.9606.
- $1,000 after 30 days of employment.
- $1,000 after 6 months of employment.
Hiring bonus is paid only after you are a current City of Glendale employee.

- 10.5 paid holidays per year; an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave for cultural or religious celebrations.
- Vacation leave accrues at:
• 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25 days per year)
• 6.12 hours per pay period after 5 years
• 7.6 hours per pay period after 10 years of service - Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days per year).
- Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
- Mandatory contribution, deducted every pay period.
- Current contribution rate: 12.00%.

- Handle meter installations and maintenance.
- Perform water shut‑off/turn‑on for scheduled maintenance and emergencies.
- Respond to high‑water usage complaints.
- Construct and maintain large meter vaults and manholes.
- Excavate job sites and restore them to pre‑work conditions.
- Investigate sewer odors and perform hydro‑cleaning.
- Assist with closed‑circuit TV operations.
- Operate city vehicles requiring a CDL.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Two years’ experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or operating light, medium, and heavy equipment. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience are acceptable. One year of relevant experience may substitute each year of required education.
