Description

Summary

The Veterinary Technician will be responsible for wellness care in a busy general practice at the Companion Animal Clinic. Reports to the Veterinary Technician Supervisor at the Animal Health Institute. Must have flexible hours; this is a mid-shift position working 2pm-10:30pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in surgical and treatment setup, restrain animals for procedures
  • Admit patients and follow protocols (not overnight)
  • Create hospitalization and treatment estimates
  • Ensure accurate charges in EMR daily
  • Assist with anesthesia and monitoring
  • Assist with surgeries
  • Perform radiography, venipuncture, catheter placement, bandage changes
  • Monitor hospitalized patients' conditions, including pain assessment
  • Administer medications and fluids
  • Assist with dentistry (not overnight)
  • Feed and exercise hospitalized animals
  • Process laundry and maintain supplies
  • Assist in sterilization and lab sample processing
  • Record patient notes in EMR
  • Support student instruction
  • Follow protocols for infectious diseases
  • Maintain equipment and inventory
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge

  • Know practice services and species
  • Familiar with breeds, coat colors, and medical terminology
  • Follow OSHA standards and find Safety Data Sheets
  • Understand infectious and zoonotic diseases

Education & Experience

High School diploma or GED required. 3-5 years in an animal hospital; CVT certification preferred. Experience in specialty/emergency settings is a plus. Bilingual in Spanish is an asset.

Computer Skills

Learn String Soft Veterinary Management system; basic MS Office skills.

Physical Demands

Stand, sit, handle animals, lift up to 40 lbs. Reasonable accommodations available.
