Dry Sand Mold Operator

Magellan Aerospace, Glendale specializes in the manufacturing of precision magnesium and aluminum sand castings. We have an exciting opportunity for an Operator to produce all types of molds using a continuous mixer.

• Receives instruction from Supervisor or Manager; notify supervisor of any job irregularities, faulty material or equipment while observing all plant safety rules and regulations and maintaining a clean working area to 6s standards.
• Picks up required patterns, cleans and prepares patterns, and puts onto the line.
• Prepares pattern in terms of appropriate sleeves, chills, risers, frames, text vent, plastic vent hose, locators, lifting hooks, core arbours, ram-ups, and sprays chills with required chill wash as per foundry technique.
• Uses continuous mixer or transports sand to place in patterns, and packs sand by hand.
• Places chills, text vent, insulating sleeves in pre-designated positions of cores when required, finishes ramming, and strikes off box face of mold with straight edge.
• Shovels sand into sand bin.
• Places pattern in position on roller conveyor to position on rollover.
• Strips mold from all boxes either manually or using the rollover.
• Strips mold of all loose pieces, inspects, performs preliminary cleaning of molds.
• Transports job related materials as required by use of hand cart or fork lift truck.
• Transports cores to designated areas, and stacks molds appropriately.
• Does minor maintenance to keep equipment clean and in good operational order.
• Calibrates and records data for SPC charts.
• Prepares/tests sand samples.

• Graduated High School / GED.
• Can lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Willing to work in a fast‑pace and sometimes noisy environment.
• Able to work in a team setting.
• Knowledge in reading and interpreting work instructions.

• Pattern boxes, mixed sand of various types, fabric sleeves, chills, lifting hooks, release agents, locators, sodium silica fluoride, steel rods, text vent, plastic vent hose, ceramic filter, nails, wire mesh, frames, core arbours, ram ups, sleeve covers.

• Continuous sand mixer, sand hopper, fork truck, rollover, hoists, core patterns, various hand tools, straight edge, packing tools, air hose, brushes, vent rods, hammer, transfer carts, rubber gloves, grids, plywood, clamps, scrubber and gassing pads, lift truck, computer, vacuum, pullers, utility knife, hole punch, grids and plates.
