Surgical Tech, Medical Assistant
Certified surgical technician providing intra-operative support. Assists the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures. Maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field. Prepares operating rooms for surgery, using appropriate techniques. Provides technical services and assists in other areas as assigned and directed. Participates in department performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Responsibilities- Utilizes the written individualized Physician Preference Card for the surgical procedure.
- Coordinates with circulating nurse to provide supplies, equipment and instruments for designated surgical procedures.
- Conducts and documents sponge, instrument and needle counts.
- Utilizes a working knowledge of current surgical scrub technology and medical terminology.
- Coordinates with circulating nurse to continuously assess case progress and patient’s safety. Properly operates and documents operation of all equipment utilized. Adheres to safety precautions during use of electrosurgical units, lasers, and any surgical equipment.
- Handles and labels specimens.

Excellent customer service skills and basic computer skills. - Education:
Completion of formal education/training to obtain a Certification as a Surgical Tech - Experience:
Knowledge and experience in operative procedures, equipment and instrumentation. - Licensure/Certification:
Certification as a Surgical Tech. CPR. - Preferred Requirements:

Two years of hospital surgical experience.
