Position Summary

This position leads the department in the performance of a variety of diagnostic radiography imaging procedures to provide data for diagnosis and monitoring, of disease and injuries in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements. The Lead Radiology Technologist coordinates the day‑to‑day workflow of the department to optimize accuracy and efficiency and ensure that our customers have the best possible experience.

This role requires competence in a variety of equipment and technology, performs duties in a range of acute care pediatric‑centered settings, and is a resource for all team members.

Position Duties
  • Performs a variety of diagnostic radiography imaging tests as prescribed by physicians and providers. Determines proper techniques to ensure optimal results in accordance with all applicable standards and procedures. Performs regular equipment calibration and maintenance in accordance with established instructions. Identifies and troubleshoots malfunctions to ensure continuous proper and safe operations. Reports service needs and preventive maintenance issues as appropriate.
  • Oversees the day‑to‑day operations of the Diagnostic Radiology department to ensure safe, efficient care of patients throughout the variety of acute‑care settings located at Phoenix Children’s and clinical sites. Reviews outpatient and surgery schedules to effectively allocate staff and provide appropriate collaborative support. Escalates issues to their direct supervisor as needed.
  • Coordinates training of new staff technologists, and continual development of department staff.
  • Provides oversight of radiologic technology educational programming, supporting the clinical instructors in the development of future technologists.
  • Attends various operation meetings and communicates essential information to staff.
  • Responsible for QA/QI management and assures compliance with regulatory agencies and laws.
  • Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
    Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
    Preferred

Experience

  • 5 or more years of radiology experience.
    Preferred
  • 1 or more years of experience in a leadership role.
    Preferred
  • Pediatric experience.
    Preferred
  • Supervisory experience.
    Preferred

  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to effectively communicate with staff, patients, and family members, as well as physicians and other internal customers and stakeholders. Customer service and service recovery skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Current ARRT registration.
    Required
  • Current AZ Radiation Regulatory Agency Medical Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners license.
    Required
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
