Position Summary

This position facilitates and administers respiratory care, including routine and complex procedures using a wide variety of techniques and equipment. Ensures care meets quality standards established by the hospital, department and regulatory agencies, and maintains all skills and knowledge sufficient to provide safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate care to patients from neonate to adolescent. This position also participates in executing quality improvement initiatives.

Duties
  • Safely perform various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established standards, procedural guidelines, and policies.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the proper and safe use of all Respiratory Care interventions and related equipment; complete initial and ongoing competency validations and troubleshoot equipment and interventions as needed.
  • Interact with and explain care modalities to patients, families, and the health care team in an understandable manner based on individual diversity and learning styles.
  • Introduce oneself to the family, patient, and health care team; display a positive customer relations attitude.
  • Accurately and reliably interpret and communicate patient data; consistently provide thorough patient clinical status reports to applicable members of the health care team using effective communication methods.
  • Assess patient clinical status, evaluate progress toward goals, and recommend courses of action.
  • Analyze critical situations and apply appropriate judgment and critical thinking for problem resolution; communicate experiences, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities to appropriate personnel.
  • Continuously improve and take initiative to develop knowledge and skills through appropriate learning experiences and opportunities; attend educational offerings, departmental meetings, and stay appraised of departmental and hospital communication.
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment, especially during stressful situations involving quickly changing priorities; display appropriate leadership skills to instill trust and credibility.
  • Intervene appropriately in urgent and emergent situations; actively engage in patient care planning with the health care team.
  • Manage multiple priorities and apply effective time management skills, using downtime for work-related activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate patient care and billing documentation; communicate assignment changes in a timely fashion; maintain an acceptable level of productivity.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapist Program.
  • Post‑graduation experience in a hospital environment.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist credential (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current State of Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) membership.
  • Current PALS certification (preferred).
