Overview
The Code Compliance Inspector performs a variety of routine and technical fieldwork activities to ensure compliance with city codes and ordinances. The ideal candidate will have two (2) years experience in public contact work involving problem resolution, preferably in a technical area such as zoning or code enforcement. High school diploma or equivalent required.
Compensation- FLSA non‑exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
- This position is a Grade 316 with an hourly salary between $27.5197 - $41.2798.

- 10.5 paid holidays per year, and full‑time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays.
- Vacation leave accrues at:
- 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25 days per year)
- Increases to 6.12 hours per pay period after 5 years
- Then caps out at 7.6 hours per pay period after 10 years of service
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days per year).
- Days per year estimates are based on an 8‑hour work day.
- Travels/drives to perform field inspections and to ensure compliance with various city codes and zoning ordinances.
- Performs field inspections in response to complaints and proactively inspects an assigned geographic area to ensure compliance with various city codes and zoning ordinances.
- Prepares and issues compliance orders for the discontinuance, removal or alteration of conditions that violate city codes or ordinances; performs follow‑up inspections to ensure that corrective action has been taken.
- Maintains effective communication with citizens and property owners in order to explain violations, code requirements and options to resolve code violations.
- Maintains accurate, comprehensive records and documentation related to work assignments and ensures all information is kept up to date.
- Works cooperatively with other City departments and agencies; coordinates inspections when necessary to ensure compliance.
- Works resourcefully with citizens and property owners in order to achieve a high level of voluntary compliance.
- Mediates disputes and negotiates solutions to resolve non‑compliance problems.
- Coordinates projects with community and/or City services in situations of hardship or other extenuating circumstances to achieve compliance.
- Attends meetings and other public functions to inform the public on code compliance services.
- Operates city vehicles.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Two (2) years experience in public contact work involving problem resolution, preferably in a technical area such as zoning or code enforcement.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Arizona driver's license.
- Will be required to work weekends.
- May be required to work other than normal business hours.
- This position is classified as safety‑sensitive, requiring a successful drug and alcohol test prior to employment and throughout the period of employment, in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post‑offer physical assessment is required. The City will incur the cost of all required testing.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of code interpretation, application, and enforce ability; routine legal procedures related to compliance of codes and ordinances; general research practices and techniques; basic principles and procedures of report writing and record maintenance; basic principles, practices and techniques of building and safety inspection techniques.
