Job Summary
Glendale Community College is seeking an Engineering Faculty member to support student success and advance workforce-focused engineering education. This position enhances student learning through the planning, development, instruction, and assessment of engineering courses spanning foundational concepts to advanced applications. Instruction emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills essential for success in college-level engineering studies and preparation for the workforce.
In addition to maintaining a full instructional load, the faculty member is responsible for curriculum development and evaluation aligned with industry standards and workforce initiatives. The role supports student engagement, enrollment, retention, and completion through advisement, mentoring, tutoring initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities such as internships, applied projects, and industry partnerships. The faculty member will collaborate with advisory committees and colleagues to strengthen the engineering program and ensure alignment with regional workforce needs and emerging technologies.
EssentialFunctions
- Instructs students in classroom and laboratory settings across engineering courses, primarily in person, using inclusive, high-impact teaching practices that develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Plans, develops, and delivers instruction, including syllabi, course materials, assignments, and assessments; evaluates student learning, course outcomes, and program objectives to support continuous curriculum improvement.
- Uses the Canvas Learning Management System to support instruction and communication, ensuring course materials meet accessibility and compliance standards.
- Maintains scheduled academic support hours to assist students and provide academic advising for engineering pathways.
- Promotes student engagement, retention, and success through mentoring, tutoring, internships, research opportunities, engineering clubs, field trips, and community- and industry-based experiences.
- Develops and sustains partnerships with industry, universities, advisory councils, and K–12/STEM programs to support workforce preparation, transfer pathways, grants, and outreach.
- Collaborates with faculty, lab technicians, and student workers to support instructional operations, laboratory safety, equipment setup, and effective use of departmental resources and technology.
Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field
OR
Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field
Desired Qualifications- Recent teaching experience in engineering, including introductory and intermediate courses taught in multiple instructional modalities, as described in the resume.
- Teaching experience in engineering disciplines such as engineering mechanics (e.g., statistics, dynamics, materials, CAD) and/or electrical engineering (e.g., circuits, signal processing, computer organization); experience teaching MATLAB and Solid Works preferred.
- Industry experience in engineering fields such as mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Experience developing instructional or training materials and assessing student learning using a variety of summative assessment methods.
- Use of interactive, innovative, and/or evidence-based teaching strategies to effectively engage and support students as listed on the resume.
- One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years
- The successful candidate may be required to work at multiple sites (Main and North campuses), and assigned to teach days, evenings, and weekends.
- May be required to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
- Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License is required.
