Position Summary

The Adjunct Faculty member for the Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs is responsible for delivering high-quality graduate-level nursing education consistent with institutional policies, professional standards, and accreditation requirements. This role supports didactic, clinical, and/or scholarly components of NP and DNP curricula and contributes to the mission of preparing advanced practice nurses and nurse leaders for evidence-based, patient-centered practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver graduate-level instruction in assigned MSN-NP and/or DNP courses using evidence-based, learner-centered teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrate subject-matter expertise aligned with assigned course content, program outcomes, and national standards for advanced practice and doctoral nursing education.
  • Facilitate student learning through course instruction, clinical or practice experiences (as applicable), scholarly mentoring, and evaluation of student performance.
  • Assess student achievement using established course and program evaluation methods, ensuring fair, timely, and consistent grading practices.
  • Maintain compliance with all institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards, including those of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Participate in course-level quality improvement activities, including review of student outcomes, course evaluations, and curricular effectiveness.
  • Maintain current knowledge of professional nursing standards, scope of practice, and emerging trends relevant to advanced practice and doctoral nursing education.
  • Collaborate with program leadership and full-time faculty to ensure alignment of course delivery with program goals and accreditation expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) and/or APRN license in at least one U.S. state, with eligibility for licensure in jurisdictions as required by the program.
  • Earned graduate degree in nursing (MSN or higher) from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assigned course content, evidenced by clinical practice experience, scholarly activity, teaching experience, or a combination thereof.
  • Ability to meet all faculty qualification requirements established by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field (e.g., DNP, PhD, EdD).
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or in a related advanced practice or specialty area, as applicable to course assignment.
  • Prior teaching experience in graduate nursing education, including NP or DNP programs.
  • Experience with online, hybrid, or distance education modalities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of advanced practice nursing roles, doctoral-level competencies, and professional nursing standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills appropriate for graduate-level learners and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Ability to integrate theory, research, and practice in teaching and evaluation.
  • Commitment to academic integrity, student success, and continuous quality improvement.

Work Environment and Schedule

This position is part-time and adjunct in nature. Course assignments, instructional modality (on-campus, hybrid, or online), and teaching load vary by program need and academic term.
