Job Title: Automotive Faculty Member (2 positions)
Location: Glendale Community College
Employment Type: Full-Time, Regular
Salary Range: $51,774 - $99,672 per annum, DOE
Work Calendar: 9 months

Job Summary

The Automotive Faculty member provides high‑quality instruction in the Automotive Service program using ASE‑aligned teaching methods and hands‑on training across all major vehicle systems, including automotive maintenance, engine repair, suspension & steering, manual drivetrain & axles, electrical/electronics, HVAC, automatic transmission, engine performance, and brakes. This position prepares students for ASE Entry‑Level and Professional‑Level certifications and supports their academic progress through proactive advising, academic support hours, and guided pathway planning.

The faculty member delivers curriculum in classroom and laboratory environments while maintaining safe, well‑equipped instructional shops that meet ASE Education Foundation standards. This faculty will work with local and statewide repair shops and dealerships, and local high schools for recruitment and internships.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitates and instructs students in classroom and automotive laboratory settings across core ASE‑aligned disciplines, including electrical/electronics, brakes, steering and suspension, engine performance, HVAC, transmissions, and emerging technologies such as hybrid/EV and ADAS. Develops written syllabi, course outlines, assessments, and instructional materials aligned to ASE Education Foundation Master‑level standards. Evaluates student learning, monitors academic progress, prepares and grades exams/assignments, and maintains clean, safe, and OSHA/ASE‑compliant automotive shop environments.

    Performs basic maintenance on instructional equipment or coordinates repairs for lifts, alignment systems, scan tools, training vehicles, and specialized diagnostic tools.
  • Promotes the Automotive Service program and recruits students through outreach events, local high‑school partnerships, dual enrollment, career fairs, advisory boards, and collaboration with industry employers. Supports, mentors, and educates adjunct faculty regarding curriculum updates, ASE standards, instructional best practices, safety requirements, and manufacturer‑specific training pathways (Ford Asset, GM ASEP, MAAP, Track, Subaru).
  • Maintains professional competence by staying current with industry trends, ASE certifications, OEM service procedures, advanced diagnostics, EV/Hybrid technologies, and instructional best practices. Participates in professional development including conferences, OEM training, ASE renewal, coursework, and college‑sponsored workshops.
  • Maintains academic support hours to assist, mentor, and advise new, prospective, and continuing students on coursework, ASE certification sequencing, manufacturer pathway options, program expectations, internships, and career placement opportunities. Includes advising automotive students; facilitating partnerships with in‑state universities for transfer programs and grants; participating in outreach activities to middle schools, high schools, and other programs; creating and maintaining partnerships within the automotive industry.
  • Participates in the academic life of the college by serving on campus and district committees, contributing to program review, supporting ASE accreditation requirements, collaborating with the Automotive Advisory Committee, and assisting with curriculum development, outcome assessment, and equipment planning.
