Reporting indirectly to the General Managers, the Director of Business Development & Contracts for Casting is a participating member of the divisional management team responsible for growing business via contracts. The role defines requirements, negotiates and monitors contracts in accordance with the 5‑year approved strategic plan, the annual budget and the Magellan Operating System (MOS), as prescribed by our Corporate office.
The director may also supervise the sales team.
- Develop and execute a capture plan leveraging existing sand casting capabilities, capacity, and future expansion opportunities.
- Interpret and prioritize large contracts, OEMs, and Tier 1 aerospace supplier bid packages to produce fully compliant bids.
- Lead cross‑functional teams to develop and complete large customer bid packages.
- Read engineering drawings and liaise with internal engineering/estimating teams to ensure customer requirements are fully understood.
- Collect intelligence on customers and competitors in the aerospace market to identify new growth opportunities.
- Build a database of potential new customers and industry contacts.
- Use market analysis to evaluate and prioritize customers with emerging opportunities.
- Introduce Magellan divisional manufacturing capabilities, including on‑site visits and key staff introductions.
- Promote Magellan through trade shows, conferences, and industry/government associations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Marketing or a related field.
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience reviewing, monitoring, and/or negotiating contracts in the aerospace industry, with understanding of the defense market.
- Proven track record of winning complex government contract awards routinely exceeding $10 M.
- Knowledge of contract law, practices, regulations, policies, and techniques.
- Familiarity with contract development language, terms, and conditions.
- Strong negotiation techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with peers, employees, and customers.
- Skill in enforcing contractual obligations and resolving complex contractual issues.
- Effective oral and written communication skills for summarizing and evaluating contract-related factors.
- Proficiency in interpreting policies and procedures.
- Experience writing specific terms and conditions for contracts.
