Junior Controller – Construction Position Summary

The Junior Controller supports the financial operations of the company by overseeing daily accounting functions, assisting with monthly closes, job‑cost reporting, project financials, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing monthly financial statements, WIP schedules, and job-cost reports.
  • Review project budgets, committed costs, and actuals.
  • Support forecasts, cash-flow projections, and margin analysis.
  • Maintain accurate cost coding for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and change orders.
  • Oversee AP/AR activities and ensure timely posting of invoices, receipts, and payments.
  • Support payroll accounting including job-cost allocations and certified payroll when applicable.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, vendor statements, and project accounts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and construction accounting standards.
  • Help maintain audit‑ready files for lenders, bonding companies, insurance audits, and CPA reviews.
  • Support subcontractor compliance including COIs, W‑9s, and lien waivers.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Operations regarding change orders, retention, and billings.
  • Review pay applications before submission.
  • Monitor contract values, budget changes, and cost‑to‑complete.
  • Use construction accounting software (e.g., Foundation, Viewpoint, Sage, Procore Financials).
  • Maintain financial dashboards and KPIs.
  • Identify workflow improvements.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience; construction accounting preferred.
  • Experience with Foundation or similar software is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, retention, and billing cycles.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly.
  • Intermediate/advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
