Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief of Staff serves as the President's senior advisor and strategic partner, overseeing the daily operations of the Office of the President and advancing key institutional priorities. The role connects strategy with execution, coordinating initiatives, managing complex projects, and ensuring decisions are carried out effectively across all divisions. This position provides advice to the President on complicated, sensitive, and confidential issues and executes projects that require the utmost confidentiality and/or urgency for the College.

  • Lead the coordination and implementation of presidential initiatives and institutional priorities across all areas of the College.
  • Manage operations within the Office of the President, ensuring efficiency, professionalism, and clear communication.
  • Support the President and Cabinet by organizing executive decision-making processes, tracking outcomes, and maintaining accountability for follow-up actions.
  • Serve as liaison between the President and internal constituencies, as well as community, governmental, and industry partners.
  • Prepare and coordinate materials, briefings, and communications for the President and the Board of Trustees.
  • Direct and monitor cross-divisional projects related to institutional effectiveness, workforce development, innovation, and student success.
  • Advance resource development initiatives in collaboration with the Vice President for Advancement and Legislative Affairs.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Advanced degree (Master's, J.D., Ph.D., or Ed.D.) from an accredited institution preferred.

Experience

  • Ten years of senior-level related experience managing operations, leading initiatives, and contributing to institutional effectiveness, workforce development, and innovation in a large or complex organization.
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex, high-impact projects and advancing institutional priorities.
  • Significant experience working directly with a chief executive and senior leadership team.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across diverse groups.
  • Experience supporting shared governance, community partnerships, and cross-divisional initiatives identified by the President.
  • High ethical standards and proven ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and transparency in handling confidential matters.
  • Proficiency with technology and data systems to enhance planning and decision-making.

Pay and Application

Pay Grade:
Starting salary begins at $186,142/annually, based on experience and education. Competitive starting salaries are dependent on education and experience. College of DuPage also offers a generous benefits plan.
